Manipur, which has witnessed brutal ethnic clashes between two communities, once again saw violent incidents worsening the law and order situation in the mountainous north-eastern state. In the new round of violence, two houses were torched by a mob in the Imphal East district after two armed thugs forced people to close their shops on Monday.

However, no casualties were reported due to the arson. The mob also beat one of the criminals while the other managed to flee. The two were arrested. According to the police, the Army and the paramilitaries moved to the place and controlled the situation. The curfew will remain in effect from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., which was previously 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Locals protested by burning tires on the highway following the new violence.
