Gadar 2 will be set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

It was released on the same day as Lagaan, starring Aamir Khan and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.

In 2001, when patriotism was at its height after the Kargil war, filmmaker Anil Sharma made a film that told a love story set against the backdrop of the partition of India and the ensuing conflict with Pakistan. The film was Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which starred Sunny Deol as a Sikh from India who falls in love with a Pakistani woman played by Amisha Patel. It was released on the same day as another patriotic film, Lagaan, starring Aamir Khan and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Both movies turned out to be phenomenally successful, a rarity when two movies collide at the box office. However, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was a step forward as it became the highest grossing Hindi film at the time after Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.

22 years later, Gadar is finally getting a sequel titled Gadar 2: The Katha Continues. The film will be set during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war and will reunite Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel with Utkarsh Sharma returning to play their son. While the anticipation for the sequel is high, the creators have decided to refresh the memory of the viewers by releasing the original Gadar in theaters as well. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha will hit theaters 22 years after its original release and will be a digitally remastered version in 4K and Dolby Atmos Sound. The film will be re-released on June 9, two months before its sequel’s August 11 release. Sunny Deol shared the news with her fans on her social media. He also said that the remastered trailer for the original will be out on May 26.

Gadar 2 is directed by Anil Sharma once again and will also star Simran Kaur, Luv Sinha and Manish Wadhwa as Pakistani Army General Viren Khan.
